Bromeliad Care
Light:
Do best in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it will scorch leaves.
Watering:
Watering is key to keeping them happy. Keeping water in the central "cup" of the Guzmania type as well as making sure they soil stays moist, but not soaking. Tillandsia type need misting and weekly/biweekly soaking in distilled water.
Humidity:
Higher humidity levels will keep this plant thriving.
Soil and Fertilizer:
For Guzmania type a well draining potting mix is a must! A mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark will keep the soil aerated and promote strong root growth. Fertilize in the spring/summer months every month with a half strength balanced liquid fertilizer. In the fall and winter, fertilize every other month. Tillandsia are soil-less.
Temperature:
Maintain consistent temperatures between 65-90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Toxicity:
Largely considered nontoxic to humans and pets.
