Cordyline

Light:

Cordyline generally prefer bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so placing in a south or west facing window or partial shade is ideal.

Watering:

Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings. The plant prefers to be slightly moist, but not waterlogged. In the winter, you can reduce watering frequency.

Humidity:

Cordyline thrives in moderate to high humidity. If your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or grouping plants together to create a more humid microclimate.

Soil and Fertilizer:

A well draining potting mix is a must!  A mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark will keep the soil aerated and promote strong root growth. Fertilize in the spring/summer months every month with a half strength balanced liquid fertilizer.  In the fall and winter, fertilize every other month.

Temperature:

Maintain consistent temperatures between 65-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pruning:

Remove yellowed or dead leaves as they appear.  Cordylines naturally lose lower leaves as they mature, exposing the trunk.

Toxicity:

Mildly toxic to humans and pets.
